§ 4-24. Disposal by city.

  • If the city is requested to dispose of any dead animal, or if the owner or other person having charge of an animal fails or refuses to dispose of an animal carcass immediately after receiving knowledge of the death of the animal and the city is required to dispose of the animal carcass, the owner or other person having charge of the animal shall be required to pay the costs incurred in connection with the disposal. If the owner or other person having charge of the animal has sufficient land to permit the burial thereon more than five hundred (500) feet from any residence, city equipment may be utilized for the burial of the dead animal on the property. If the property is not sufficient in size so as to permit the burial thereon, the owner or other person having charge of the animal shall pay the costs of the disposition of the animal carcass otherwise made by the city.
